Mediatech Africa 2026 Theme Reflects Growing Convergence Across Technology Sectors

Mediatech Africa, the continent’s largest  showcase of professional audio visual, unified communications, broadcast, film, content creation, and live event technology, has announced its official theme for the 2026 edition: “Converge. Connect. Create”

Running from 30 June – 2 July 2026 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Johannesburg, Mediatech Africa will celebrate the convergence of technology sectors that are increasingly driving how industries work together, create content, and connect audiences.

Since the event’s launch in 2001, Mediatech Africa has expanded in a way that mirrors the local market. South Africa’s industry is heavily distributor-focused, with many distributors supplying products across multiple verticals. As a result, broadening the show’s offering to include AV integration, pro audio, lighting, staging, and content creation felt practical at the time, a natural response to how local companies operate.

“Truthfully, it wasn’t part of some grand plan,” says Simon Robinson, Show Director of Mediatech Africa. “Our distributors were already working across sectors, so it made sense for the show to do the same. Looking back, it turns out we were living the ‘convergence’ story long before it became a global trend. Converge. Connect. Create. sums up exactly where the industry is now.”

“If you look at what’s happening internationally, it’s the same story,” says Simon Robinson. “ISE started purely as an AV integration show and has adapted to the needs of the market. It is now attracting a large number of live event technology and broadcast AV brands. IBC, which has always been broadcast-first, is also incorporating AV in its mix. We’re seeing much closer alignment between these sectors globally.”

The 2026 edition of Mediatech Africa promises three days of hands-on technology showcases, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities, with a strong emphasis on solutions for real-world environments across Africa. From smart classrooms and control rooms to stadiums, houses of worship, broadcast studios, and corporate spaces, Mediatech Africa remains the place where industry sectors meet, collaborate, and move forward together.

Simon Robinson returns full-time to lead Mediatech Africa 2026

Robinson launched Mediatech in 2001 at the Sandton Convention Centre and has guided its growth into Africa’s cornerstone event for professional AV, broadcast, production, staging, lighting, and display technology. During the show’s six-year hiatus, he kept close to the market—project-managing large-scale productions and events, and serving as Business Development Manager at one of SA’s big AV distributor’s.

“Stepping out of the organiser role for a season let me see the industry from other angles,” says Robinson. “Running projects on the ground and spending time in distribution gave me a better feel for the pressures and timelines our exhibitors and buyers face. That perspective will help shape how we deliver 2026.”

Reflecting on the event’s pause, Robinson says: “We kept Mediatech off the calendar until the industry could support a show that meets our visitors’ expectations. Mediatech isn’t your average B2B expo and we weren’t going to bring it back half-baked.”

With offices now based at Langhams in Fourways, Robinson has hit the ground running—catching up with past exhibitors and advancing venue planning. “2026 is about getting the industry back in the same room and doing real business,” Robinson adds. “I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and building on what we’ve achieved in the past.”

Mediatech Africa 2026 will feature focused technology zones across AV System Integration, Unified Communications, Commercial and Live Pro Audio, Staging, Lighting & Effects, Film/Studio/Production, Broadcast, Streaming & Content Delivery, Connectivity & Signal Distribution, Screens & Display, Digital Signage, Content Creation, and Electronic Music, Studio & DJ.

Mediatech Africa Expo 2026 to Take Place at Iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre

Mediatech Africa is the continent’s largest trade show dedicated to professional audiovisual, broadcast, media, and live event technology. The show brings together industry professionals, technology providers, creatives, and decision-makers for three days of hands-on demos, networking, and innovation. It serves as a platform for both global brands and regional players to connect, collaborate, and explore the future of the industry.

Before Covid, the show was held at the Ticketpro Dome in Northgate. After that venue was sold, the decision to move the the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit was motivated by several strategic factors. Simon Robinson, Co-Owner of Mediatech Africa, shared his thoughts on the decision: “We’re excited about moving Mediatech to Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. The venue is not only impressive in its infrastructure, but it’s ideally positioned to welcome our local and international community. It also provides us with the flexibility to effectively highlight different technology sectors in dedicated spaces. This move reinforces our commitment to delivering an event that truly reflects the standards of our exhibitors and visitors.”

Claire Robinson, Sales and Marketing Director at Mediatech Africa, commented on the overwhelming response: “Since announcing that Mediatech Africa is back, we’ve been blown away by the enthusiasm and support from across the industry. From exhibitors confirming early interest to visitors reaching out from all corners of the continent, the excitement has reminded us just how strong and valued the Mediatech brand is — and how much it has been missed since the global pandemic.”

Mediatech Africa 2026 marks 25 years since its inception in 2001 — celebrating a legacy of innovation, connection, and industry leadership.
